Pet urine, left unattended, can damage your carpet in several ways. Moisture can weaken the layers of the carpet allowing separation or delamination of the backing material. Some areas can be particularly damaged and can separate.
It is important to attack the problem immediately. If you wait to long, some odors cannot be removed, the damaged area of the carpet, will then need to be replaced and repaired with a new piece of cut out underlay and carpet.

Urine whether human or animal has three main components:
- Urea: a slightly sticky substance
- Urochrome: Gives urine it’s yellow colour
- Uric acid: Mild acid rick in nitrogen
The first two components can be washed away with ordinary cleaning and commercially available urine odour products but the uric acid crystals are extremely insoluble and remain tightly bonded to the surface. After initial cleaning and drying with ordinary products it may appear that the problem is solved. However any type of moisture will reactivate those remaining crystals and the smell returns – as strong as ever.
